New Puppy Visits

Puppies should be examined, vaccinated and dewormed. The following recommendations are advised by Granada Animal Hospital during your new puppy visits. This is the standard to maintain basic wellness as dictated by your pet’s lifestyle, risk factors and age.

Vaccine recommendations begin as early as 6 weeks of age.

6-8 weeks:

Exam, Fecal, Deworm, Distemper Vaccine, start heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention

9-11 weeks:

Exam, Fecal, Distemper 1st Booster, Deworm*, start heartworm and flea/tick prevention

12-14 weeks:

Exam, Fecal*, Distemper 2nd Booster, Deworm*, Bordetella (if at risk/needed) start heartworm and flea/tick prevention *

15-17 weeks:

Exam, Fecal*, Distemper 3rd Booster, Deworm, Rabies, discuss microchip and spay/neuter, start heartworm and flea/tick prevention *

*If needed or not done prior to visit

Lifestyle and risk-based recommendations:

  • Bordetella (Kennel cough) Vaccine
  • Leptospirosis Vaccine
  • Lyme Vaccine
  • Influenza Vaccine

Additional things to consider:

  • Puppies can be spayed/neutered as early as 6 months (except large breed male dogs).
  • Consider Microchipping your pet during this procedure!
  • Are you crate training your pet to have proper urinary habits?
  • Start keeping up with your pet’s oral care at home early on!
  • Are you feeding a clinically tested, veterinarian approved diet?
  • Learn about keeping up with your pet’s ear cleaning and maintenance!
  • Have you heard of using the Gentle Leader to walk your dog?
